John "Jack" Fonsey Whiteside Jr., 83, went to be with his Lord on Thursday, July 29, 2010, at Wayne Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be held today at 4 p.m. at the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home with the Rev. Ronnie Heath, the Rev. Timothy Creel and Chaplain Bill Boyd. Interment will be Monday at 11 a.m. in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery with Military Honors.
Jack was born in Durham County on Nov. 20, 1926, to the late John F. Whiteside Sr. and Clara Nance Whiteside. Jack was a retired manufacturing representative. He served his country during World War II in the United States Marine Corps. Jack was a Mason, a Shriner and was a member of the Marine Corps League. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and was attending the Tabernacle Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Jack is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Holland Whiteside; his daughters, Mary Susan Michael and husband, Jerry, of Phoenix, Ariz. and Patricia Irene Edens of Goldsboro; his son, John F. Whiteside III and wife, Debbie, of Belfast; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, five stepgrandchildren and eight step-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Joe Whiteside and wife, Ida Ruth of Salem, S.C.; his sister, Grace Ann Byrd of Randleman; his step son, Billy Davis and wife, Glenda, of Seven Springs; and his special K-9 friend, Sissy.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Thompson Whiteside; and his brother, Bob Whiteside.
Flowers are welcome or memorials may be given to the Marine Corps League, 104 Wildwood Lane, Princeton, NC 27569.
The family would like to express their thanks and appreciation to Doctors Dove and Mayo and the staff of Wayne Memorial Hospital ICU South for the love and care shown to Jack during the past few weeks.
The family will receive friends today following the service at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at 316 Cedar Road, Goldsboro.
