LEON EARL DAVENPORT

Leon Earl Davenport died Tuesday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Oak Forest Church of Christ, 2705 N. Park Drive. There will be a visitation with the family after the service.
Earl was born in Tyrell County, N.C., to the late Leon Earl Davenport Sr. and Carolina Morris Davenport.
After obtaining an undergraduate degree in education from East Carolina University, he completed a master's degree at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill.
Earl served as the assistant superintendent of Goldsboro Public Schools for many years.
After leaving the school system, he served as an agriculture extension agent, focusing on the Wayne County 4-H program. He ended his career as a staff development specialist at Cherry Hospital.
Mr. Davenport was an active member of the Goldsboro Jaycees and a scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts of America.
He also served as a deacon at Goldsboro Church of Christ for many years.
He is survived by his loving wife, Joanna Davenport, and his brother, Charles Davenport of Tucson, Ariz. He has three children, Deborah J. Davenport DVM, David E. Davenport and Dana M. Hardin; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
