Mrs. Dorothy Newsome Elliott, 60, 102 Homestead Drive, was born in Wayne County Jan. 25, 1950, to the late deacon Tom Newsome and mother Deartha Coley Newsome. Wednesday, July 7, 2010, Dorothy succumbed to the call from her master.

"Dot," as she was affectionately called, attended Eureka School and graduated from Norwayne with the class of 1968.

Dot begun work with the federal government in Washington, D.C., and then moved back to Wayne County in October 1974. She worked for Wachovia from October 1974 until 1979. She then began work for the state of North Carolina with Wayne Community College, where she retired July 30, 2009.

During her younger years, she met and married Larry Elliott. To this union one child was born.

Beautiful memories will forever be in the hearts of many such as husband, Larry D. Elliott of the home; daughter, Beyanka (Greg) Lewis of Pikeville, N.C.; son, Darryl Lamont (Jeanne) Pope of Cincinnati, Ohio; precious granddaughters, Mariya Shandel Lewis, Damien Pope, Jasmine Moore and Nadiya Pope; adopted daughter, Angela Wilson; siblings, Edna (Blair) Elliott of Fremont, Curtis Newsome of Eureka, N.C., and Jimmy (Carolyn) Newsome of Fremont, N.C.; devoted sister-in-law, Mary Jane Newsome; godsister, Nina Best of Pikeville, N.C.; in-laws, Montrose (Jimmy) Durante of Fredericksburg, Va., Lauretta Elliott of Goldsboro, N.C., Wanda (Madison) Wilder of Kennesaw, Ga., and Billy Ray (Juliett) Elliott of Bellwood, Ill; special friends, Yvonne "Kitty" Goodman and Janice Johnson; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and special friends.

A visitation for Mrs. Elliott will be held today from 3 to 7 p.m. at E.M. Matthews Funeral Home and Cremations Inc. Services to celebrate the prolific life and legacy of Mrs. Elliott will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Lord's Table Church.

Following the formal services in the sanctuary, the E.M. Matthews classic angelic white fleet will coach Mrs. Elliott's corporeal temple and escort her precious family to Elmwood Cemetery for committal rites. It is in this earthly consign that Mrs. Elliott will remain until that great coronation in the middle of the air.
