JIMMY KORNEGAY

MOUNT OLIVE -- Jimmy Kornegay, 68, 310 Henderson St., passed away Wednesday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. from the chapel of Tyndall Funeral Home, with the Rev. Chris Currie officiating. Interment will follow in Maplewood Cemetery.
Mr. Kornegay, son of the late Byard G. and Hazel Smith Kornegay, was a retired Home Security Life Insurance agent.
He was a member of Mount Olive Presbyterian Church in which he served as an elder.
He was a past member of the board of commissioners for the town of Mount Olive and has served as mayor pro-tempore.
He is survived by his wife, Lorraine Ivey Kornegay of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Edith K. and Mark Pickens of Huntsville, Ala.; a son and daughter-in-law, James and Joy Kornegay of Mount Olive; three grandchildren, Stacy Elizabeth Pickens, James Grant Kornegay II and Jacob Carlton Kornegay; two brothers, Byard Grant Kornegay Jr. of Mount Olive and Gerald Clay Kornegay Sr. of McCall, S.C.; a sister, Linda Kay Lane of Minnesote Beach; an aunt, Teresa Kornegay Marshburn of Wilmington; and many other beloved family members and cherished friends.
The Kornegay family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 5 to 7 p.m., and at other times at the residence.
They welcome floral tributes, or would appreciate memorial gifts to be made to the Jimmy and Lorraine Kornegay Endowment Fund at Mount Olive Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 158, Mount Olive, N.C., 28365.
