MALCOLM L. GOURLEY

Malcolm Lee "Mac" Gourley, 86, 106 Powers Court, died Monday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Paul United Methodist Church, with the Rev. James Harry, officiating. A private inurnment will be held in the St. Paul United Methodist Church columbarium.
Born June 19, 1923, in Spray (Eden), he was the son of the late Fitz Lee "Tobe" and Mozelle Hobson Gourley.
Mac served in World War II in the European Theater as a member of the Army Signal Corps.
He was a graduate of North Carolina State University. His career was in textiles and personnel management in several plants in North Carolina and Virginia. He retired from J. P. Stevens as personnel manager and from Southco Distributing.
He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the J. Paul Edwards Sunday school class and served as an usher and formerly a member of the United Methodist Men.
He was past president and member of the Golden K Kiwanis Club. He was formerly active in Boy Scouting, serving as Scout master and Cub Scout leader.
Mac was an avid Wolfpack fan and golfer.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Frances Hundley Gourley of the home; sons David (Cheryl) Gourley of Wake Forest and Mark (Judy) Gourley of Goldsboro and Fayetteville; grandchildren, Brian Gourley of Greenville, Stephen Gourley of Denton, Texas, and Mary Frances Gourley of Greenville; brothers, Wallace (Carolyn) Gourley of Southern Pines and Frank (Alice) Gourley of Henry, Va.; caregiver, Dennis Batts; canine friend, Rowdy; and many other relatives and special friends.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Willard and Melvin Gourley of Virginia and half sister, Jane Gourley of Washington.
Honorary pall bearers will be members of St. Paul United Methodist Church's J. Paul Edwards Sunday school class and members of Golden K Kiwanis Club.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wayne Opportunity Center, 619 S. George St., Goldsboro, N.C., 27530, or St. Paul United Methodist Church -- Bereavement or Pipe Organ Fund, 204 E. Chestnut St., Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.
The family will greet friends in St. Paul United Methodist Church parlor immediately following the service and at other times at the home.
