MILTON E. HOLMES
Died Feb. 20, 2010
LIBERTY -- Milton E. Homes, 5718 Kimesville Road, went home to be with the Lord Feb. 20 after 96 years of celebrating life.
A celebration of Milton's life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Rich and Thompson Funeral Home in Burlington.
Milton retired from Cone Mills in 1974 to spend his retirement years enjoying his family and friends.
He continued his service at the Salvation Army Church, ringing the Christmas bell until he was 90 years old.
Milton will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his vegetable gardens and his love of the Bass Mountain Bluegrass Festival Park, where he recorded music for 30 years.
Milton was in every sense a good and kind man.
Milton is lovingly remembered by his sister, Annie Mae Sauter of Mount Olive; his daughter, Hazel Bowman and husband, Harold, of Liberty; his son, Steve Calvin Holmes and wife, Connie, of Snow Camp; his grandson, Mike Terrell of Burlington; his granddaughter, Bonnie Gregory of Burlington; his grandson, Harold Dean Bowman Jr. of Liberty; his grandson, Calvin Holmes of Snow Camp; his granddaughter, Missy Holmes of Snow Camp; and six great-grandchildren.
Milton will be greeted in heaven by his parents, Albert and Florence Outlaw Holmes of Goldsboro; his wife, Mable Clayton Holmes of Haw River; his brother, Harvey Holmes of Goldsboro; his brother, George Holmes of Goldsboro; and his sister, Christine Murphy of Goldsboro.
