Joseph Marshall Lucas, 88, passed away Friday morning at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

A funeral service will be held today at 3 p.m. at St. Luke United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Adam Seate officiating. Committal will be at Wayne Memorial Park.

He was the son of the late Joseph M. and Berta Hatcher Lucas and the husband of Kathy Lucas.

Joe was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church, the Methodist Men and Woodmen of the World for 55 years, and served in the United States Navy in World War II.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Lucas is survived by two sons, Richard Maurer and wife, Sandra, of Greer, and Steve Maurer of Goldsboro; a daughter, Kathy Slusher and husband, Howard, of Raleigh; and two grandsons, Clint Kirby of Franklinton and Sgt. Joshua Kirby, currently serving in Iraq.

The family received friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home.
