MOUNT OLIVE -- James R. "Buddy" Whitfield Jr., 61, passed away Saturday afternoon at his home.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park in Dudley, with visitation at other times at the home.
He was a graduate of Southern Wayne High School in Dudley, attended Mount Olive College and Atlantic Christian College. He served in the National Guard, was a regional supervisor for Philip Morris Tobacco Company, and was a tobacco farmer.
He is survived by two daughters. Lisa LaGrone of Florida, and Jamie King of Dover. James is also survived by two sisters, Jean Wells, of Mount Olive, Gerry Brewer of Mount Olive; and three grandchildren, Betsy, Will and Hayley LaGrone.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Russell Whitfield Sr. and Ruby Fields.
Arrangements are being handled by Tyndall Funeral Home in Mount Olive.
