Master Ja'tae Johmal Smith was born Dec. 24, 2001, in Goldsboro. He joined the chorus on angels Tuesday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
A service of remembrance will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Thompson Chapel Free Will Baptist Church in LaGrange, with the Rev. Larry M. Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Old Mill Cemetery.
He is survived by his mother, Malisa Sutton of the home; his father, Johnny L. Sutton of Fremont; his maternal grandparents, Beulah Pridgen of Pikeville and J. Ervin Pridgen of LaGrange; and his special Muppet, Elmo.
A viewing will be held today from 4 to 7 p.m. at Rhodes Funeral Home Chapel in Goldsboro.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m.
The family will assemble at the home, 542 Artis Road in Pikeville, at noon in preparation for the funeral procession.
