THELMA J. SMITH

Oct. 30, 1928-Sept. 21, 2009

Thelma Jean Morse Smith, 80, went to be with her Lord Monday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

A service to celebrate her life will be held Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home, with the Rev. John Dutton officiating. A private interment will be held Thursday at Wayne Memorial Park.

A native of Johnston County, she was the only daughter of the late Frank and Lucille Wood Morse and the widow of Giles Brooks "G.B." Smith.

Mrs. Smith was educated in the Goldsboro public schools and graduated from Guilford College in Greensboro in 1949.

She worked at Hollowell Oil Co. from 1945 to 1981 and was a secretary at Free Life Ministries from 1983 until her declining health. She was a member of Daniels Memorial Methodist Church, where she was active in all phases of the ministry and programs of the church.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her brothers, Douglas Morse and wife, Irma, of Goldsboro and Charlie Morse and wife, Judy, of Gastonia; a godchild, Shannan Mozingo of Goldsboro; and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that you plant a tree, give to an animal shelter, donate children's books to a library or contribute to United Church Ministries, Free Life Ministries or to a favorite charity.

The family will receive friends Wednesday following the service at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at 138 Oak Forest Road.

Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.seymourfuneralhome.com.
