VIRGINIA DARE MALLARD BOOTH

Virginia Dare Mallard Booth, formerly of Pollocksville, died peacefully at Mayview Convalescent Center in Raleigh on March 17, 2009, after a period of declining health.
A memorial service was held at Pollock-Best Funerals and Cremations in New Bern on March 20, 2009.
She was born to Sudie Virginia Ipock Mallard and William Wardell Mallard on Feb. 18, 1920. On April 2, 1942, Virginia Mallard married John Merritt Booth, who preceded her in death on April 19, 1998.
A resident of Jones County for 87 years, she was active in the community of Pollocksville. She was a member of the Pollocksville United Methodist Church and served the church in many capacities throughout her membership. She was a past member of the Jones County Arts Council, a former golfer and charter member of Quaker Neck Country Club, and she served on many volunteer committees throughout her life. She spent many hours enjoying bridge or other games with friends and family. John and Virginia owned and operated Booth Oil Company in Pollocksville for over 40 years.
Surviving children are Douglas Booth and wife, Erlene, of Eureka, Sue Booth of New Bern and Evelyn Hughes and husband, Alan, of Raleigh; grandchildren, Jeff and Shannon Booth, Rhonda Booth Merritt, Stephen and Tara Peed, Phillip and Briana Peed, Sam Hughes and Alison Hughes; great-grandchildren, Austin Booth, Hunter Peed and Landon Peed; sister and sisters-in-law include, Frances Bernardo of New Bern, Isabelle Mallard of Trenton and Becky Booth of Ayden; as well as many nieces, nephews and other extended family.
Preceding her in death was one grandson, Chad Booth.
The family expresses sincere gratitude to her caregivers during her last years at her home, Shirley Dixon and Shirley Eubanks, and to the kind staff at Mayview and to Hospice of Wake County.
