JAMES R. NICKENS JR.

On Saturday, March 7, 2009, J.R. Nickens, 86, departed this world, peacefully at his residence surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at First Christian Church with the Rev. Dr. Fred Clarke officiating. Burial will follow in Willow Dale Cemetery.
A native of Wayne County, he was the son of the late James R. Nickens Sr. and Sudie Underhill Nickens. He was retired from Dillon Supply Company and was joyfully employed by the Goldsboro Family YMCA, where the wellness center is named for him. One of the greatest loves in his life was First Christian Church, where he was a lifelong member and elder emeritus.
J.R. is survived by his wife, Edna Taylor Nickens; daughters, Debbie Lane and husband, David, of Greensboro, Trish Saeger and husband, Chuck, of Greenville and Cindy Babson and husband, Roger, of Cary; brother, Russ Nickens and wife, Bernice, of Pinehurst; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to be made to First Christian Church, 1609 E. Ash St., Goldsboro, N.C., 27530 or to the Goldsboro Family YMCA Scholarship Program, 1105 Parkway Drive, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8:30 at Seymour Funeral Home and will be at the residence at other times.
