Master Sgt. David Rayner, 72, 204 Perry Drive, died Tuesday in the Veterans Administration Hospital in Durham.

Funeral services will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at McIntyre Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Robert J. Bland officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Old Mill Cemetery.

David was the son of the late Noah and Naomi Rayner of Johnston County.

He attended Richard B. Harrison High School, Selma, and graduated in 1956. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and completed 21 years of service. He was assigned to several duty stations and completed his military career at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, Goldsboro, where he retired. He attended White Rock African Methodist Episcopal Church in Micro.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Alonzo.

His memory will be cherished by his loving and devoted wife, Roxie Ward Rayner, of the home; two sons, William David Rayner of Dale City, Va., and Alexander Rayner of Cleveland, Tenn.; three brothers, Henry (Estelle) Rayner of Goldsboro, Lewis (Anna) Rayner of Monterey, Calif., and Frank (Collene) Rayner of Greensboro; three sisters, Ada Taylor of Micro, Clara (Richard) Robinson of Jeffersonville, Ind., and Betty (Larry) Hallis of Parkville, Md.; one sister-in-law, Mamie Newsome of Micro; six grandchildren, Danielle, Marcus, Jocelyn, Elijah, David Alonzo and Aloni; one great-grandchild, Brooklyn; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be Saturday from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the McIntyre Funeral Home Ministries, 900 S. George St., Goldsboro.

The family will receive friends at the residence where they will also assemble in preparation for the funeral procession.
