MOUNT OLIVE -- Mrs. Veta Dare Poe Wood, 84, 642 Indian Springs Road, died Wednesday morning at Wake Medical Center, Raleigh.

Funeral services will be held by the graveside Saturday at 1 p.m. in Maplewood Cemetery. The Rev. Larry Upchurch will offiicate. The family will be receiving friends at Tyndall Funeral Home Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. and at other times at the residence.

Mrs. Wood was born in Durham County and her parents were Ivy Van Poe and Lottie Dickerson Poe, both deceased. She was a homemaker and minister's wife. In the late 1970s, she was inducted into the Eta Rho Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi.

Mrs. Wood is survived by her husband, the Rev. Howard C. Wood of the home; a son, Ricky Wood and his wife, Crystal, of Mount Olive; two daughters, Myra Mitchell of Raleigh, and Nancy Geller and husband, Bob, of Atlanta, Ga.; a sister, Mary Elliot of Virginia Beach, Va.; three brothers, Ikie Poe of Florida, Bobby Poe of Boone, and Lindy Poe of Durham; eight grandchildren, Angela Stang, Laveta Nicks, and Philip Arthur, all of Georgia, Robin Sieprawski of Cary, Glenda Cranwell of Raleigh, Melinda Torres of Ellsworth Air Force Base, South Dakota, Brittni Wood and Kacey Wood, both of Mount Olive; and 14 great-grandchildren.
