Ms. Eva Barnes, 87, 206 Alpha Arms, Apt. D, departed this earthly walk of life on Friday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday at noon at Greenleaf Christian Church, Disciples of Christ Church, 2110 N. Williams St., with the Rev. Dr. William J. Barber II officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park Cemetery. A viewing will be held Thursday at Hamilton Funeral Chapel, 423 S. James St., from 1 to 4 p.m. A wake will be conducted Thursday at Greenleaf Christian Church, Disciples of Christ Church, from 6 to 7 p.m. with the family present to receive other family members and friends.

Eva was born in Wayne County on April 23, 1921, to the late Mr. Walter Barnes and Mrs. Callie Woodard Barnes.

She attended the public schools of Wayne County where she remained through her life. In her early childhood, she became a member of Greenleaf Christian Church. She was an active member attending Sunday school and morning service every Sunday. She served as a member of the Floral Ministry and Senior Usher Board.

She was employed with the J.P. Taylor Tobacco Company and Borden Manufacturing, retiring in 1984. After retirement, she served Greenleaf Christian Church as the church sexton, cleaning and maintaining the sanctuary and educational building.

Grandma enjoyed working in her flower bed, canning and freezing fruits and vegetables, and cooking Sunday dinner for her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren; and whoever else stopped by. Her family will especially cherish the quilts she made completely by hand with love.

Ms. Eva Barnes leaves to cherish her memory her sister, Ruth Jones; six sons, evangelist Walter Barnes, Robert Barnes and wife, Linda, minister Joe Barnes and wife, Mary, pastor Carlton Barnes and wife, Sandra, John Barnes and wife, Kathy, and Jesse Barnes and wife, Sharon; 16 grandchildren, Carolyn, Yolanda, P.J., Tameco, Teresa, Tim, Michelle, Shelia, LaShonda, Derrick, Carlton, Cedric, Patrice, Karena, Travis, and Trey. Also, she leaves 22 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

At other times, the family will receive friends at the residence of Ms. Eva Barnes, 206 Alpha Arms, Apartment D, Goldsboro, N.C., 27530.
