ALPHONSO RAIFORD

Alphonso Raiford, 77, of New Haven, Conn., departed this life Jan. 21, 2009. He was the husband of Ada Raiford.

Born in Goldsboro, June 13, 1931, he was the son of the late Jessie and Beatrice Raiford.

He was employed by the state of Connecticut as a judicial marshal, and prior to retiring was employed at the V.A. Medical Center in West Haven, Conn.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Cynthia Garner Chisolm, Marion Y. Coley McAuley and husband, Ralph, and Sandra Raiford Barnes and husband, William Sr.; a special granddaughter, Bridget Chisolm; 16 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was predeceased by a sister, Beatrice Exum.

A celebration of Mr. Raiford's life and legacy will be held Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Temple Church, 285 Dixwell Ave., New Haven. Friends may call at the church from 10 until 11 a.m. Masonic services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in Beaverdale Memorial Park, New Haven. Curvin K.
