CLARA LEE GURLEY HOWELL

Clara Lee Gurley Howell, 83, 1109 Edgerton St., was promoted to glory Tuesday morning, Jan. 20, 2009, at her home.

Mrs. Howell was born in Wayne County on Aug. 19, 1925, to the late Dan and Bessie Capps Gurley. She was a soldier of the Salvation Army, where she taught Sunday School for a number of years and was retired from RG Barry Corp. of Goldsboro.

She is survived by three sons, George Wayne Howell and wife, Diane, of Omaha, Neb., Danny Richard Howell and wife, Debra, of California, and Charles Robert Howell of Goldsboro; one daughter, Jean Howell Jones of Rosewood; one brother, Wyatt Ray Gurley and wife, Hilda, of Belfast; one sister, Ada Batten of Dudley; 12 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Howell was preceded in death by her husband, George Washington Howell, and several brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the chapel of Howell Funeral Home. Pastor Danny Johnson and pastor Donald Daniels will officiate. Burial will follow at Wayne Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at Howell Funeral Home and Crematory in Goldsboro and other times at the residence.
