LaGRANGE -- Robert Earl "Bobby" Fields, 81, of LaGrange, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 2009.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009, at 2 p.m. from Mewborn Family Cemetery with the Rev. Ronnie Hobgood officiating.
Bobby was born July 16, 1927 in Lenoir County to the late Horace Earl Fields and Ola Mae Hines Fields. He served with the United States Merchant Marines during World War II, and was working as farm supervisor with Pierce Farms, Falkland. Bobby was an avid deer hunter and helped organize and formerly served as president of Lane-Fields Hunting Club, Rich Square.
Bobby is survived by his wife of 58 years, Nan Mewborn Fields; two children, Robert Gary Fields and wife, Patricia, of LaGrange, Donna Fields Mann of Kinston; five grandchildren, Bradley Fields and wife, Carmen, of Jason, Brooke Fields of Kinston, Rachel Emory and husband, Landon, of Kinston, Rebecca Jane Mann of Kinston and Robert Houston Mann of Kinston; two brothers, Alton Ray Hamm and wife, Joan, of LaGrange, Roger Hamm and wife, Janice, of LaGrange; two sisters, Peggy Fields Wade of LaGrange, Jean H. Jackson and husband, Doug, of Jonesboro, Ga.; special friends, Eric Pierce and Jean Deans of Falkland. He was preceded in death by a brother, Wayne Fields.
The family will receive friends following the graveside service and at other times they will be at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Gary Fields, 5486 Highway 903 N., LaGrange.
