Barbara Jean Carraway, 75, died Dec. 4, at home.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at Goldsboro Primitive Baptist Church.

She was born in Goldsboro and moved to the Treasure Coast in 1985 from Raleigh, and resided in Stuart, Fla.

Barbara received her Master's Degree in Education from N.C. State and had been a consultant with the N.C. Dept. of Public Instruction, retiring after 30 years. At that time Barbara began her career of treating alcohol and drug addiction. In 1987 she began "Adventures in Recovery," a licensed program for healing emotional pain. Barbara retired from a good career and found her calling. At the time of her passing, she had celebrated over 25 years of sobriety. She traveled extensively throughout the U.S. and foreign countries.

She was a member of Goldsboro Primitive Baptist Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Goldsboro Primitive Baptist Church, c/o Mildred Mercer, 403 S. Best St., Goldsboro, NC 27530.

She is survived by her sister, Christine Pate of Pikeville; sisters-in-law, Betty Carraway; Angie Carraway; Jill Carraway; Jean Ferguson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Verna Mae Howell; Addie Williams; Hazel Carraway; brothers, Bob, Jay, Ralph, Delbert, Byrle, James and Wilbur Carraway.
