PIKEVILLE -- Clifton Ray Howell, 62, Capps Bridge Road, went to be with his Lord and Savior Tuesday, Dec. 9 at home.

He was a native of Wayne County born on Aug. 26, 1946, to the late Rudolph and Sallie Howell.

Ray was a member of Pikes Crossroad Pentecostal Holiness Church and a former member of Pleasant Hill Free Will Baptist Church. He loved Gospel music where he played and sang with the Friendly Heirs Gospel Group. Clifton was an avid fisherman and hunter.

He is survived by one son, Travis R. Howell of Goldsboro; one daughter, Marcie Mills and her husband, Paul of New Bern and their mother, Becky Rosen; one sister, Betty Bunn and her husband, David of Pikeville; and three grandchildren, Tyson, Jaxon and Samantha.

Homegoing services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Free Will Baptist Church on Gurley Dairy Road with burial following at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Princeton. The Rev. Wayne Goff and the Rev. Bill Cotton will officiate. The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Shackleford-Howell Funeral Home in Fremont and other times at the home of his sister, 1147 Gurley Dairy Road, Pikeville.
