LOIS M. HICKS

Lois Marie Norris Hicks, 68, of Goldsboro, died on Sunday in Raleigh.

The family will receive friends at Seymour Funeral Home on Tuesday from 6 until 8 p.m. and at other times at the Hicks home at 708 Lionel St. A worship service celebrating the life of Lois will be held Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church in Goldsboro at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Drew Clark and the Rev. Ryan Rasmussen, followed by a graveside service at the church cemetery of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Snow Hill.

Mrs. Hicks was a native of Swansboro and was the daughter of Thelma Norris and the late Walter Norris Sr. She and her loving husband, Stephen H. Hicks, celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary in January. She was active in church activities, serving as an elder in the Presbyterian Church, where she was honored as a lifetime member of Presbyterian Women. She was also an avid gardener and served as the Chairman of the Board of the Elizabethan Gardens in Manteo and in numerous offices in the New Bern Garden Club. She loved and was loved by many, and her greatest joy was her and Steve's children and grandchildren.

Mrs. Hicks is survived by her husband, Stephen H. Hicks; her mother, Thelma Norris, of Pollocksville; a brother and sister-in-law, Walter Norris Jr. and Sylvia Norris of Swansboro; her children, daughter Dianna Jessup and Bill Downey of Raleigh; son and daughter-in-law Kenneth and Rachael Mashburn of Kinston; son Stevie Hicks and Jennifer Royal of Emerald Isle; son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Wendy Mashburn of Pollocksville; and daughter and son-in-law Shelly and Joe Stewart of Raleigh; and her grandchildren Allison, Carson, Bradley, Cherie, Miles, Anthony, Christopher, Kendall, and Andrew.
