Mrs. Annie Mae Newsome, lovingly known by her family and friends as "Mae," 81, 414 Hamilton Drive, entered into eternal rest on Thursday at Britthaven Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. James African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, 206 S. George St. Burial will follow in the Wayne Memorial Park Cemetery, 1191 Old Grantham Road. A viewing will be held on Tuesday at Hamilton Funeral Chapel, 423 S. James St., from 1 to 7 p.m. A wake will be conducted Tuesday evening from 6 to 7 p.m. at Hamilton Funeral Chapel with the family present to receive other family members and friends.

Mae was born Dec. 17, 1926, in Durham County to the late Jacob Overby and Dorcas Peace Overby.

Mrs. Newsome was a loving sister, wife, mother, and sister in law; a charter member of Epsilon Phi Omega Chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. and a member at St. James African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church.

After graduating from high school in Durham, she obtained her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Winston State Teacher's College in Winston-Salem. She also obtained her Masters Degree in Guidance and Counseling from North Carolina Central University in Durham.

Left to cherish her loving memory are her very devoted husband, Theodore Newsome Sr..; one son, Theodore Newsome Jr. of the home; one sister, Martha Thurston (Spurgeon) of Durham; a devoted brother-in-law and sister-in-law, David Newsome Jr. and Ruby Newsome who aided in her care, both of Goldsboro; two other brothers-in-law and three other sisters-in-law; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

At other times, the family will receive friends at the residence of Mr. Theodore Newsome Sr., 414 Hamilton Drive.
