JENNIE W. KORNEGAY

Jennie Williams Kornegay, 88, passed away on Tuesday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by her family.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Providence United Methodist Church with the Rev. Vernon Brown. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Jennie was born in Wayne County on Dec. 26, 1919, to the late D.I. Williams and Ella Newell Williams. She was married to the late Landis Kornegay. Jennie had retired as the manager for the school cafeteria at Brogden Primary School. She was a member of Providence United Methodist Church.

Jennie is survived by her son, Kenneth Harold Kornegay and wife, Vickie Phipps Kornegay of Goldsboro; her daughter, Mary Ella Best and husband, Lonnie Lee Best of Goldsboro; her sister, Margaret W. James of Greensboro; her grandchildren, Frances Best Jones, Kathryn K. Miller and Kristina Carlson; three great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and two step-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Isaac Landis Kornegay.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to Providence United Methodist Church, 202 Providence Church Road, Goldsboro, N.C., 27530; or Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 2402 Wayne Memorial Drive, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534; or Sutton's Retirement Center, 4258 N. U.S. Highway 13, Goldsboro, N.C., 27534.

The family will receive friends on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at the home of Mary Ella and Lonnie Best, 217 Grantham School Road, Goldsboro.
