OSCAR M. WILLIAMS

Oscar Marion Williams, 94, died Monday in Glencoe, Ala., where he resided with his daughter Lynda and Vin Whittington.

Services for Mr. Williams will be held at Newton Grove United Methodist Church on Friday at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Wayne Memorial Park with the Rev. Walter Gaskins, the Rev. Vin Whittington and Mr. Roger Clark officiating.

Mr. Williams was born April 13, 1914. He grew up in Newton Grove where he lived most of his life. He married Mildred Thornton in 1935, and they enjoyed 65 years together. He was preceded in death by his wife Mildred Thornton Williams, parents Owen Carouth and Ella McArthur Williams, brother Robert and Carouth Williams and sister Margaret Wills.

Marion farmed for many years. He worked several years at Fred's Hot Dog Restaurant in Smithfield and also worked for Sylvania Electronics in Smithfield where he retired. Marion was a lifelong member of the Newton Grove United Methodist Church. He was noted for his jovial personality, love for humor and easy going nature.

Mr. Williams is survived by his daughters, Janet and Roger Clark of Pinehurst, LaDene and James H. Wade of Goldboro, Lynda and Vin Whittington of Glencoe Ala.; grandchildren, Roger Jr. and Christine Clark of Frederick, Md., Amy and Scott Salley of Huntersville, Teresa and Ken Blankey of Glencoe, Ala., Mark and Michele Whittington of Uriah, Ala., Kristie Watson of Glencoe, Ala.; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be members of the family.

Visitation will be held tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at West and Dunn Funeral Home in Newton Grove. Memorials may be made to the Newton Grove United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 471, Newton Grove, N.C., 28366.
