EVA P. LANCASTER
Died July 30, 2008
PATETOWN -- Eva Pate Lancaster, the widow of Harold W. Lancaster and the daughter of the late Guy Martin Pate and Nora Sasser Pate, died on this morning at Glenaire Retirement Community in Cary after a long illness, an illness which she bore with amazing patience and courage.
Funeral services will be held at Stoney Creek Free Will Baptist Church at 2 p.m. on Friday with the Rev. Gary Bailey officiating. Burial will follow at the Lancaster Family Cemetery. Visitation will be at Seymour Funeral Home in Goldsboro from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday. At other times the family will be at the home of Hugh Pate at 501 Greenbrier Drive, Goldsboro or in their personal homes.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, H. Martin Lancaster and Alice and Nan Lancaster Davis and Jim of Cary and Lynn Lancaster Gorges and William of New Bern; grandchildren and their spouses, Ashley L. Templer and Trent, Mary Martin Lehrman and Chris, Megan D. Hodge and Tim, Jonathan Davis and Krista, Staton Davis and Jillian, William Christopher Gorges, Mark Lancaster Gorges and Nora Elizabeth Gorges; great grandchildren, Jackson Davis Hodge, Ella Kathryn Templer, Elizabeth Pate Templer and Grace Lynn Davis; and brother, Hugh G. Pate and his wife, Doris of Goldsboro. She was predeceased by her husband and parents.
Mrs. Lancaster was reared and lived her entire life until her stroke 17 years ago in the Patetown Community where she was a faithful member of Stoney Creek Free Will Baptist Church, its Women's Auxiliary and the Lillie Mae Sasser Sunday School class. She was also a strong supporter of Mount Olive College. Mrs. Lancaster was a founding member and leader of the Wayne County Reach to Recovery Program of the American Cancer Society. She was a devoted 4-H Club and school volunteer at the Pikeville schools. She was a charter member of the Stoney Creek Extension Homemakers, serving as its president and as president of the County Council.
Mrs. Lancaster was a lifelong member of the Wayne County Democratic Women and an ardent supporter of her son's political career, campaigning for him throughout Wayne County and the Third Congressional District. She was an active partner in the farming and business activities of her husband. Most of all she was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother who imbued in her children and grandchildren the importance of close and loving family ties, active community involvement and a strong personal faith.
