MARSALETTE S. GUILL

DANVILLE, Va. -- Marsalette Sutton Guill, 88, died Sunday night at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Ben Atwater, in Siler City, N.C.

A graveside service will be conducted Thursday at 1 p.m. at Danville Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Wrenn-Yeatts Funeral Home in Danville.

Marcie was a native of Wayne County. Born May 28, 1920, to the late Bernice L. and Minnie McClenny Sutton, she graduated from Rosewood High School and Raleigh School of Commerce in Raleigh, where she specialized in court stenography.

After graduation, she was employed for a while in Raleigh and then Charlotte. Marcie was married to the late John William Guill of Roanoke, Va. When he was called into service during World War II, she and their 3-month-old daughter moved to Durham to live with her brother Alton and his family while her husband was away. They also lived with her parents at Rosewood for part of that time. While in Durham, she was employed in the offices of Camp Butner in Durham. At the end of the war when her husband returned, the three moved to Greensboro and then to Eden, N.C., where they lived for seven years.

In 1952, they moved to Danville where she became a charter member of the Norwood Women's Club and a member of the Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary. In her later years, she served as a volunteer at Hilltop Gardens. She was a longstanding member of Unity Presbyterian Church, where she was active in the Women of the Church.

Mrs. Guill was predeceased by her husband of 45 years; a daughter, Ann Guill Smith; and a granddaughter, Heather Leigh Bolling. She was also preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, W. R. Sutton, J. Alton Sutton, Bernice E. Sutton, David Sutton, Claxton Sutton; five sisters, Mittie S. Brock, Sallie Hollowell, Julia Fail, Mary Smith and Dorothy Carraway.

She is survived by three loving daughters, Sandra Simmons and husband Sam of Reidsville, N.C., Jane Rease and husband Rodney of Danville, Donna Atwater and husband Ben of Siler City, N.C.; four grandchildren, Alan Smith, Adrienne Stanley Jonathan Evans and Will Atwater and five great-grandchildren She is also survived by two sisters, Rachel Braswell of Rosewood and Jean Langley and husband Kenneth of Clayton.
