Edward Holland Meyerhoeffer, 74, 605 E. Raintree Lane died on Monday at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Memorial services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church with Dr. Glenn Phillips officiating. Interment will be at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery with military honors.

Ed was born in Guilford County on Dec. 29, 1933 to the late Cornelius Tyree Meyerhoeffer and Alta E. Jenkins Meyerhoeffer. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. Ed was a member of First Baptist Church, where he had served as a Deacon and a Sunday school teacher. He was a retired teacher with the Pitt County School System. Ed was a member of the Golden "K" Kiwanis and the Order of the Odd Fellows. He had also served as Quaker minister in the North Carolina Yearly Meeting. Ed was instrumental in the implementation of the first AARP organization in Goldsboro.

Ed is survived by his wife, Virginia Hope Anderson Meyerhoeffer; his sons, Edward Kim Meyerhoeffer and wife, Donna of Virginia, Brian Von Meyerhoeffer and wife, Pamela, of Kernersville and Britt Van Meyerhoeffer of Winston-Salem; and his daughter, Diana Hope Jones and husband, Robert, of Goldsboro. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Robert Dane Jones and wife, Brittany, of Goldsboro, Caleb Allen Jones of Goldsboro, Brian Von Meyerhoeffer Jr. of Arlington, Va, Christopher Holland Meyerhoeffer of Fort Bragg, and Matthew Charles Meyerhoeffer of Greenville. Ed is also survived by his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Kay and Del Sills of Camden, S.C.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Pulmonary Care Unit at Duke University, P.O. 3814, Durham, N.C., 27710.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at his home.
