LAGRANGE -- Edward Gerald "Pete" Howard Sr., 63, 509 S. Caswell St., died Sunday, June 29, 2008, at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 2, 2008, at 11 a.m. at Rouse Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry Mitchell and Harold Herring officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
Pete was born in Lenoir County to the late Kirby and Kathleen Barwick Howard. He attended Immanuel Baptist Church and worked many years with Hardy-Newsome Foundry. Pete had a great love of family, gardening, working in his yard and cooking outdoors.
Pete is survived by his wife of 44 years, Alberta Sauls Howard; son, Edward Gerald Howard Jr. and wife, Judy, of Kinston; daughter, Loretta Carol Sasser and husband, Neal, of Goldsboro; two grandchildren, Hunter Foyles Howard and Dustin Garrett Howard; four brothers, William Earl "Bib" Howard of LaGrange, Cecil Ray Howard of Goldsboro, Dennis Howard of LaGrange and Donald "Buzzy" Lutter of Kinston; three sisters, Edna Pearl Hinson of Goldsboro, Ann Wright of LaGrange and Gail Godwin of Norfolk, Va.
Pete was preceded in death by a brother, Vernon Howard; and a sister, Helen Smith.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home and at other times they will be at the home.
