LUTHER R. PAYNTER

Luther Rudolph Paynter, 79, died Sunday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m.
at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Vernon Bras-well and the Rev. Johnny Sasser officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in Wayne Me-morial Park.

Born in Tamcliff, W.Va., he was the son of the late Wirt and Lura Davidson Paynter and husband of the late Mollie Herriot Paynter.

Luther was retired from the U.S. Air Force, having served 22 years, and was a member of Emmaus Baptist Church. He was very active with the Wayne County Republican Party, was a Wayne County Master Gardener and was a member of the American Legion.

Mr. Paynter is survived by a daughter, Bonnie Lambert and husband, John, of King, N.C.; three sons, Richard Paynter and wife, Karen, of Creedmoor, N.C., Scott Paynter and wife, Susan, of Goldsboro, N.C., and David Paynter and wife, Jennifer, of Tucson, Ariz.; three brothers, Clayburne Paynter, Charles Paynter and Eugene Paynter all of West Virginia; two sisters, Ruth Simpson and Gaynelle Stepp both of West Virginia; and 11 grandchildren, Chase Lambert, Sean Lambert, Kayla Lambert, Kristen Paynter, Ryan Payn-ter, Tori Paynter, Danielle Paynter, Jaret Paynter, Reese Paynter, Samuel Paynter and Luke Paynter.

Family members will greet friends Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home and at other times, will be at the home of his son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Susan Paynter, 305 Adler Lane, Goldsboro, N.C.
