LOUIE C. KENNEDY

Feb. 22, 1935-June 21, 2008

LAGRANGE -- Louie Coltrain Kennedy, 73, entered into Heaven June 21, 2008.

A service of remembrance will be held Tuesday, June 24, 2008, at 4 p.m. at LaGrange First Free Will Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ronnie Hobgood officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery.

Louie was born Feb. 22, 1935, in Lenoir County to the late Arthur Marion Coltrain and Emma Perry Coltrain.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Lee "Teeny" Kennedy Sr.

As a child, Louie walked to LaGrange First Free Will Baptist Church and had been a member for 60 years. Always willing to serve her Lord, she sang in the choir for 59 years, taught Sunday School for 50 years and served as church treasurer.

Louie graduated from LaGrange High School in 1953. Following graduation from high school, she attended and graduated from Greenville College of Beauty Knowledge.

Louie retired from Caswell Center with 30 years of total service retiring as Director Of Environmental Services. She was an avid supporter of National Public Radio, Public Television and the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

A lover of music and the arts, Louie instilled this passion in her children. She was a major supporter of the North Lenoir Drama Department.

Louie is survived by a daughter, Marian Kennedy of LaGrange; son, Raymond Lee Kennedy Jr. of Wrightsville Beach and West Palm Beach, Fla.; brother, Harold Coltrane and wife, Sue, of Goldsboro; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ralph and Judy Kennedy of Kinston; niece, Debra Louie Sutton; seven nephews, Lynny Coltrane, Glenn Coltrane, Anthony Kennedy, Derek Kennedy, Kevin Kennedy, Lewis Stowe and Michael Waller; along with many great nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home and at other times, they will be at the home.
