Simon S. Kennon was born May 2, 1918, to the late Lewis Kennon and Sarah Johnson Kennon in Duplin County. He departed this life Monday, June 2, 2008.

He was the last survivor of 11 children.

Pop deeply loved his children, relatives and friends.

He was an entrepreneur of sorts, providing neighborhood barber services and firewood for many families in need. In 1984, he retired from the city of Goldsboro's sanitation department as a truck driver. He also assisted in building both family churches.

Pop leaves cherished memories to seven children, Lillian (Leroy) Williams of Goldsboro, Helen G. Kennon of Covington, Ga., Dolly (George) Scott, the late James L. Kennon, Simon Kennon Jr., Marian (Hubert) Daniels, the late William S. Kennon, Wynette (James) Page and Cowania (Lewis) Sampson all of Goldsboro; 22 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

He leaves special memories to the children of his late niece, Norma Lee Baker, and his loving daughter, Lillie K. Barnett.

Visitation will be Friday from 2 to 6 p.m. at McIntyre Funeral Home Ministries of Goldsboro.

The family will receive friends at the home of his daughter, Dolly Scott, 2719 Isaac Drive, and will assemble there in preparation of the funeral procession.
