PRICETOWN -- Shelton Douglas "Doug" Southerland Jr., 31, Pricetown community, Seven Springs, died Sunday, June 1, 2008.

Funeral services will be Tuesday night, June 3, at 7 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Olive. Officiating will be the Rev. Ashley Summerlin and Mr. Jimmy Vinson.

The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home and at the home of his parents, 539 Billy Price Road, at other times. Interment will be Wednesday, June 4, at 11 a.m. in Pineview Cemetery.

Doug was employed with his father at S & D Towing and Tires at Pricetown. Things he enjoyed most in his life were fishing with his kids and niece and nephew, four-wheeling, a good game of basketball, grilling out and riding the roads.

He is survived by his parents, Shelton D. and Jo Smith Southerland of Pricetown; two children, Smith Southerland and Vanessa Southerland both of the home; his maternal grandparents, Chester W. and Audrey T. Smith of Pricetown; a sister and brother-in-law, Sherry S. and Jerry Stroud of Seven Springs; a niece, Maci Lee-Stroud and a nephew, Reed Lee-Stroud, both of Seven Springs; aunts and uncles, Kathy S. Smith of Pricetown, Wayland and Joan Southerland, Elizabeth "Punk" and Albert Ray Knowles, Freddie Southerland and Winifred S. Bell all of Mount Olive, Gregory Southerland of Kenansville and Doris E. Southerland of New Bern; numerous cousins; and many close friends including Johnny Tripp and Brandon Whitfield.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Norman and Penny S. Southerland; uncles, C.W. Smith, Dexter Southerland, Lawrence Southerland and Eddie Nelson Southerland; and aunts, Vanessa Smith, Sandra S. Taylor and Norma Jean S. Blalock.
