JACKIE O. GODWIN

Jackie Geraldine Oliver Godwin, 85, went to be with her Lord on Friday, May 9, 2008, at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Jackie was born in Johnston County on Jan. 6, 1923, to the late James Robert Oliver and Myrtle Strickland Oliver. She was married to the late Roland Duvall "R.D." Godwin. Jackie was a graduate of Campbell College and was a teacher assistant for Wayne County Public Schools. She was a member of Rosewood First Baptist Church. Jackie was also a member of the Rosewood Home Extension Club and the Commission Women.

The funeral will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Rosewood First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Vernon Braswell officiating. Entombment will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.

Mrs. Godwin is survived by her daughter, Ingrid Rose G. Cox and husband, Sam, of Rosewood; her son, Lars Duvall Godwin of Raleigh; her grandchildren, Lauren Elizabeth Cox of Goldsboro and Meredith Leah Cox of Pikeville; her daughter-in-law, Debbie Godwin of Raleigh; and her sister-in-law, Velva Dean Oliver of Clinton.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Hugh Kendall Oliver.

The family would like to express their thanks to Southeastern Oncology and Dr. James Atkins, the Intensive Care Unit and staff of Wayne Memorial Hospital and Doctors Massey and Katz for their care and compassion during their mother's illness.

Although flowers are welcome, memorials may be made to Rosewood First Baptist Church, 562 N.C. Hwy. 581 S., Goldsboro, N.C. 27530.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at her home, 295 Perkins Mill Road, Goldsboro.
