HILDA J. "MONK" STATEN

Jan. 4, 1954-May 6, 2008

Hilda Jean "Monk" Staten was born Jan. 24, 1954, to the late Mrs. Delois Louise Ward Monk and Mr. Lonnie J. Monk. She grew up in the north-end section of Goldsboro and received her education in the Goldsboro city schools. She joined the United States Military in 1976, served six years and was employed by the HCR Manor Care of Pittsburgh, Pa., for the past 16 years. She resided in Pittsburgh, Pa., for the last 25 years and went to be with the Lord on May 6, 2008, at Wake Med Hospital.

She was preceded in death by one son, Quavoris Kendre Crawford.

Hilda united in holy matrimony to Carl C. Staten on Aug. 17, 1994. She leaves to cherish her loving memories a daughter, Ta-Tasha Shyran Monk of Clayton; a brother, Alonzo Monk of Clarksville, Tenn.; one sister, Sharon Belvin, also of Clarksville; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild; five stepchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Those who knew "Jean" knew her for her loving, caring, and laughter. Do not cry for her passing, but rejoice for her reuniting with her baby, her son, Kendre, as this is what she longed for. The family greatly acknowledges all kindness shown during the illness and following Hilda's death.

A private service was held Saturday, May 10, 2008.

Arrangements by Howell Funeral Home and Crematory in Goldsboro.
