NORRIS S. JORDAN

March 25, 1922-April 28, 2008

Norris Sprunt Jordan, 86, of 2242 N.C. Highway 55 West, died Monday at Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville. Born in Wayne County, he was the son of the late John Stanley and Bessie Sutton Jordan. Norris was a graduate of Mount Olive High School and attended N.C. State University prior to his service in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After the war he became owner of Jordan's Agri Supply Company. He was a member of the Smith Chapel United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Adult Sunday School Class. He was a charter member of the Smith Chapel Volunteer Fire Department, a member of the Mount Olive Masonic Lodge #208 and a Sudan Temple Shriner.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home with the Rev. Jay Winston and the Rev. Steven Wicks officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.

Mr. Jordan is survived by his wife, Vennie Grady Jordan; a daughter, Selena Jordan Bennett and her husband, Gordon Eugene Bennett, of Mount Olive; a sister, Gaynelle Jordan Minton of Newport Richie, Fla.; and two grandchildren, Laura Celeste Bennett of Raleigh, N.C., and Graham Gordon Bennett of Mount Olive.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7 until 9 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home in Goldsboro and at other times will be at the home.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be directed to the Smith Chapel United Methodist Church or to the Smith Chapel Volunteer Fire Department.
