J. R. Pitt Sr., 73, of 6808 Pin Oak Lane, Fayetteville, died Thursday at his residence. The funeral will be held this afternoon at 2 p.m. at Elm Grove Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ, Highway 117 N., Pikeville. Pastor Kenneth Vaughn will officiate, and burial will follow in the Old Mill Cemetery.
He leaves to cherish precious memories his wife, Minnie Bass Pitt; four daughters, Deborah Cox of Goldsboro, Amanda and her husband, Billy, Smith, Maria and her husband, Corey, Ruffin, Madeline and her husband, Darius, Pitt, all of Fremont; five sons, J.R. Jr. and his wife, Diane, Pitt of Pikeville, Monty Pitt and John Pitt, both of Goldsboro, Damarcus and his wife, Sara Pitt, of Fayetteville, N.C., and Ted and his wife, Melissa Pitt, of Houston, Texas; one sister, Audrey Coley of Goldsboro; 21 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
The family is receiving friends at the home of his daughter, Deborah Cox, 2150 Hwy. 111 N. and will assemble there for the funeral processional.
