ESTHER CASEY GUIN

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Esther "Kay" Casey Guin, 89, of Tuscaloosa, died Saturday, April 5, 2008, at LaRocca Nursing Home. Visitation was April 7, 2008, at Heritage Chapel Funeral Home. Graveside services were at 3:30 p.m. at Tuscaloosa Memorial Park, with the Rev. Jerry Montgomery officiating and Heritage Chapel Funeral Home directing.
Mrs. Guin was born in Goldsboro on Nov. 5, 1918. Mrs. Guin received her nursing degree from Charity Hospital in New Orleans, La., where she was president of her class. She entered the U.S. Air Force Medical Corps during World War II, serving as a Lieutenant at Kessler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Miss., where she met and married James Claud Guin Jr., M.D.
Mrs. Guin was a resident of Tuscaloosa since 1946. She was a long-time member of Calvary Baptist Church. She was a member of the National Society Magna Charta Dames, National Society of Colonial Dames, National Society of the Society of the American Revolution and United Daughters of the Confederacy. She served as president of the Qui Vive Club, president of Zonta International and as State President of the Women's Auxiliary to the Medical Association of the State of Alabama.
Preceding her in death were her husband, James Claud Guin Jr., M.D.; her parents, Jack and Emma Casey; her sister, Kathryn Casey DeLorenzo; and her brothers, S. Jack Casey Jr., and Kendrick Casey.
Survivors include her children, Emma Kay Long of Ridgeland, Miss., and James Claud Guin III, and wife, Sandy; grandson, Nathan, of Tuscaloosa; sister, Ellen Casey Bryan of Goldsboro; nieces, Patricia Newman of La Grange, Herriette Albritton of Suffolk, Va., and Suzanne Harrison of Goldsboro; nephews, Steven Bryan and Glenn Bryan, both of Goldsboro; great-nieces, Kathryn Harrison and Caroline Bryan, both of Goldsboro; great-nephews, Mark Newman of La Grange, Casey Newman of Germany, Bryan Harrison of Goldsboro; step-granddaughter, Victoria Long of Mobile, Ala.; and a step-great-granddaughter, Anna Katherine Long of Mobile, Ala.
The family extended special thanks to the following: Johnnie Counts, Dr. Randall Ayres and his wonderful staff, Dr. Jerry Fikes and his wonderful staff, and the management and staff of North River Village and La Rocca Nursing Home.
