SNOW HILL -- William Tully Layden, 52, of 1194 Oakdale Road, died Thursday, April 3, 2008. Tully graduated from North Lenoir High School and attended Lenoir Community College. He worked 27 years with E.I. Dupont and was presently working as safety manager with Bridgestone-Firestone, Wilson. Tully was the current chief of the Shine Volunteer Fire Department and was president of the Greene County Firefighters Association. He was a member of Free Gospel Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church and president of Jason Water Corp.

The funeral will be held Sunday, April 6, 2008, at 2 p.m., at Free Gospel Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church with Pastor Terry Heath and the Rev. Gary Tingen officiating. Interment will follow at Snow Hill Cemetery.

Tully is survived by his wife of 29 years, Sherry Grant Layden; three children, Amy Layden Lyerly and husband, Dwayne, of Holly Springs, Kelly Layden Harris and husband, Josh, of Snow Hill, Aaron Tully Layden and special family friend, Kristen Potter of Snow Hill; four grandchildren, Kolby Harris, William Harris, Ava Claire Lyerly and Asher Lyerly; father and step-mother, Homer and Virginia Layden of LaGrange; two brothers, Erwin Homer Layden Jr. of Snow Hill and Michael Layden of Zebulon; and mother-in-law, Mrs. Leo Bailey of LaGrange. Tully was preceded in death by his mother, Wilma Carter Wood.

The family received friends Saturday from 6 to 8 at Free Gospel P.F.W.B. Church and at other times will be at the home. Online condolences may be expressed at www.rousefh.com.
