DUDLEY -- Corrine Newell Lewis, 84, went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 4, 2008, at SunBridge of Mount Olive surrounded by her family.

Corrine was born in Wayne County on Jan. 29, 1924, to the late Herbert H. Newell and Elma Costin Newell. She was married for 59 years to the late J. Dallas Lewis. Corrine worked as an aircraft mechanic during World War II and was retired from R.G. Barry Company with 17 years of service. She was a foster parent from 1960-1966 and organized the Lakeside Home Demonstration Club, where she had served as president. Corrine was a member of Brogden United Methodist Church, where she had served as a Sunday school teacher.

The funeral will be held today at 6 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Shirley Acker Ward and Dr. Bob Kretzu officiating. Interment will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park.

Corrine is survived by her sons, Dallas Eugene Lewis and wife, Carolyn, of Dudley, Herbert Allen Lewis of Goldsboro, and David Chris Lewis of Dudley; her daughter, Barbara Lewis McFatter of Fuquay-Varina; six grandchildren, Angie Lewis Joyner and husband, Billy, Leticia Lewis Bass and husband, Eddie, Lori Lewis Jones and husband, Robert, Lisa Crawford Searle and husband, Michael, Kelly Lewis Wiggs and husband, Michael, and Jonathan Lewis Crawford; and eight great-grandchildren, David Joyner, Meredith, Colleen and Sarah Jones, Daylan and Mylee Wiggs, Costin Searle and Brianna Crawford. She is also survived by her sisters, Vera Sills, Nell Bateman and husband, Norton, JoAnne Britt and husband, Billy, and Janice Jamison; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Rose Ray and Edith Gray; her daughter-in-law, Dale Ingram Lewis; and her sons-in-law, Denny Crawford and J.C. McFatter.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to Brogden United Methodist Church Building Fund, 2918 Hwy. 117 South, Dudley, N.C. 28333.

The family will receive friends Sunday following the service at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at her home, 304 Nancy Drive, Dudley.
