Aug. 10, 1934-April 3, 2008

Retired Master Sgt. Eugene "Rock" Stone, 73, loving husband of Barbara Stone went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday surrounded by his family at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

"Rock" as he was known by those who knew and loved him was born in Proctorville, N.C., to the late Forest and Ella Stone. Rock entered the U.S. Air Force in 1953 and proudly served his country until his retirement in 1983. Rock was a former member of Pinewood Presbyterian Church and was a current member of Family of Faith Community Church in Goldsboro, N.C. He was founder and president of Goldsboro based Associated Parcel Service, Inc.

Rock, a loving husband, father and grandfather, is survived by his wife of 54 years, "Bobbie"; his daughters, Karen Earnest and husband, John, of Pikeville, N.C., Debbie Kimbrell and fiancée, Charles Ginn, of Pikeville, N.C.; and his son, Ron Stone and wife, Kim, of Lakeville, Minn.; his brother, S.J. Stone and wife, Barbara, of Virginia Beach, Va.; and his sisters-in-law, Sylvia Stone of Lumberton, N.C., Patricia Sutton and husband, Charles, of Wilmington. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Karla Carter and husband, Ashley, Lee Singleton and fiancée, Chelle LaBarr, Jennifer Orth and husband, Mike, Michael Kimbrell and fiancée, Melissa Stancell, Laura Reinke and husband, Ryan, Christopher Kimbrell, Joseph Stone, Donnie Kimbrell; and his great-grandchildren, Ashton Carter, Elizabeth Carter, Madison Orth, Ava Kimbrell, Jackson Orth; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Wayne Stone; and his son-in-law, Don Kimbrell.

Family members will receive friends at the home of Debbie Kimbrell, 6069 Wayne Memorial Drive, Pikeville, N.C. Visitation will be held Saturday, April 5, 2008, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 6, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be pastor John Earnest and Dr. Frank Day. Burial, with full military honors, will follow in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Princeton, N.C. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandsons, Lee Singleton, Michael Kimbrell, Christopher Kimbrell, Donnie Kimbrell, Joseph Stone and Ashley Carter.

Rock will always be remembered as a devoted husband, dedicated Daddy, doting grandfather and much loved member of his extended family and community.

Memorials may be made in Rock's memory to the Wayne County Relay for Life or the American Heart Association.
