Billy Simpson Herring Sr., 61, of 431 Forest Knolls Road, died Monday evening at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
Billy was born in Lenoir County to the late James Herring and Ellen Harper Herring. He was employed at Stackhouse in Goldsboro for over 20 years. Billy was an active member of Trinity Missionary Baptist Church on Highway 111 South.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Jack Sauls and the Rev. Stan Southerland will officiate. Interment will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park.
Billy is survived by his wife, Deloris Raynor Herring; his children, Billy Simpson Herring Jr. of Spruce Pines, Dina Torres of Goldsboro, Gary Herring and wife, Shannon, of Goldsboro; his grandchildren, Christina, Maria, Rod, Landen and Nicole Herring; and his brothers, Jimmy, Kenneth and J.C. Herring.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Wayne County Relay For Life in memory of Billy's 11 year battle with lung cancer.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 7 p.m. and following the funeral service at Seymour Funeral Home and other times at their home.
