JANE P. KELLY

MOUNT OLIVE -- Jane Price "Tootsie" Kelly, 73, passed away on Thursday after a battle with cancer at SunBridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born to Betty S. and Eugene B. Price of Seven Springs. All of her adult life was spent in Duplin County, first as a farmer's wife and then as a long time employee of Young Squire of Mount Olive as a seamstress. The last 10 years of her life were devoted to caring for her husband, Joseph W. "Swinge" Kelly, who was a resident of SunBridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Mount Olive until his death in October of 2007. She was a member of the Alum Springs Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 15, at 6 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Shelton Justice officiating, after which the family will receive friends. At other times, the family will be at the home of Emily and Ronnie Malpass, 1047 Mark Herring Road, Seven Springs. The committal and burial service will be on Sunday, March 16, at 3 p.m. at Maplewood Cemetery.
Jane is survived by her mother, Betty S. Price of Seven Springs; her daughters, Cynthia Wood Grady of Seven Springs, Emily Grady Malpass and her husband, Ronnie, of Seven Springs; three grandchildren, Christy M. Bennett of Faison, Ronda M. Jackson and husband, Shawn, of Spivey's Corner, Brandon G. Malpass and wife, Erin, of Seven Springs; her brother, Maynard E. Price and wife, Tammy, of Seven Springs; five great-grandchildren, Mary Raven Bennett, Melody Malpass, Maddison Malpass, all of Seven Springs, Caegan Jackson and Cameron Jackson of Spivey's Corner; two stepdaughters, Mary Jo K. Pridgen and husband, Charles, of Beautancus, Jackie K. Darden of Raleigh; a stepson, Rick Kelly of Wilson; three stepgrandchildren, Kate and Will Darden of Raleigh, Tyler Houston of Seven Springs; and a special cousin, Alyce P. Kelly of Albertson. She is also survived by her "second family," the staff of SunBridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Mount Olive, and the many long-term residents of SunBridge and the families of these residents.
She was preceded in death by her father, Eugene B. Price; her husband, J.W. "Swinge" Kelly; a stepson, Billy Kelly; and by the father of her children, Kermit W. Grady.
The legacy she leaves behind is her love for elderly people. Her life was filled with visits to older family members and friends from the time she was a young woman until illness called her to care for her husband. She continued to spread her love for her fellow man through the years spent with her husband at SunBridge as she developed loving relationships with the staff and residents there. Her love and nurturing feelings for older people is a gift that she has instilled in her family that will always be treasured.
