SALLIE MOORE DAVIS

July 23, 1910-March 7, 2008

EUREKA -- Sallie Moore Davis, 97, died Thursday.

Mrs. Davis was the widow of Charles Thomas Davis, who died in 1955. She was born in Ayden to the late Churchwell and Venetia Baker Moore. Eureka was her home from 1931 until moving to The Pines in Goldsboro in 2002.

Teaching brought her to Eureka where she taught before marriage. She went on to teach for 16 years at Meadowlane Elementary School. She was an active member of Alpha Delta Kappa, a sorority for teachers.

Upon arriving in Eureka, she immediately joined the Eureka United Methodist Church. Through the years she has served as a Sunday school teacher, youth director, organist for 48 years and in the United Methodist Women at local and conference levels in various capacities.

Funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Eureka United Methodist Church. Interment will be in Eureka Cemetery.

Surviving is her daughter, Nora D. White of Greenville, S.C.; son, Charles T. Davis Jr. and wife, Joyce, of Eureka; granddaughters, Laura W. Herd and husband, James, Dolores W. Rabey and husband, Roger, Jewell W. Tonkel and husband, Jeff, Lisa D. Frieson and husband, Kevin, Nora D. Aycock and husband, Gary; and nine great-grandchildren. A granddaughter, Jennifer Davis, predeceased her grandmother.

The family will be at the church Friday from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
