DOROTHY ELLIS PERKINS

PIKEVILLE -- Dorothy Ellis "Dot" Perkins, 87, of 950 Old Kenly Road, died this morning at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
Dot was born in Wayne County to the late Herman Weil Ellis and Ruby Rose Ellis. She was a homemaker and had worked in the Rosewood cafeteria and also in the dietary department of O'Berry Center. Dot enjoyed traveling in their RV and kept journals of their travels. She also had a great love for quilting.
A service to celebrate her life will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. at Pine Forest United Methodist Church with the Rev. Billy Olsen officiating. The family will greet friends Thursday following the service and other times at the home of her daughter, Karen Collins, 954 Old Kenly Road, Pikeville. A private interment will be held Friday in the church cemetery.
She is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Oscar Stanton Perkins; her daughters, Betsy Hill and husband, John, of Mount Olive, Karen Collins and husband, Lionel, of Pikeville; and her son, Steve Perkins of Rosewood. She cherished her seven grandchildren, Johnny Hill of Havelock, Tommy Hill of Morehead City, Wendy and Tom Crane of Phoenix, Ariz., Christy and Danny Duval of Gulfport, Miss., Danny and Melissa Edgerton of Pikeville, Carl and Kim Perkins of Eureka, Kevin Perkins of Fremont; and her step-granddaughter and husband, Miranda and Scott Beasley of Princeton. She adored her 12 great-grandchildren, Chris Hill, Amanda Hill, Cameron Hill, Joey Crane, Carson Crane, Courtney Duval, Hunter Duval, Justin Edgerton, Tyson Edgerton, Emily Perkins, Carlie Perkins, Cody Perkins, Collin Beasley. Dot is also survived by her sisters and brothers-in-law, Sarah and Al Avery of Goldsboro, Carolyn and Jimmy Thompson of Goldsboro, Cleon Ellis of Apex; her brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Martha Ann Ellis of Rosewood; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Thomas Stanton Perkins and James Herman Perkins; two brothers, Herman Ellis and George Ellis; and two sisters, Ruby Rose Kornegay and Ruth Ellis Best.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Dot's honor to Pine Forest United Methodist Church, 867 South N.C. 581 Highway, Goldsboro, N.C. 27530 or to the Boy Scouts of America, Troop 258.
