Joseph Pinto, 98, a resident of Kirkwood, died Wednesday evening at Wayne Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Pinto was born in New York to the late Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Pinto. He was a retired semi-professional baseball player for the Wilton Baseball Team. After his career in baseball, Mr. Pinto began working as a gardener with the City of New York. He was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church and had been actively involved in the North Carolina Senior Games Program.

Memorial services will be Saturday, March 1, 2008, at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home with the Rev. Tom Norris, O.S.F.S. presiding.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Andrew and Sarah Pinto of Goldsboro; his grandchildren, Melissa Pinto Hayes and husband, Michael Hayes II, of Goldsboro, Christopher Alexander Pinto and fiancée, Julie Bryant, of Goldsboro, Rita Evola of Chester, Va.; and his great-grandchildren, Franchesca Evola and Alessandra Evola.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family to assist them with memorial services for Mr. Pinto.

The family will receive friends Saturday following the service at Seymour Funeral Home.
