JAMES THOMAS QUINN

Oct. 24, 1923-Jan.17, 2008

MAGNOLIA -- James Thomas Quinn, 84, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2008. He was born and resided in Magnolia. "Tom," as he was known to those who loved him, was preceded in death by his beloved wife Mary Marie Quinn; his parents, Elvin and Beulah Bates Quinn; and his sister Elizabeth Davis.

Tom is survived by his sister, Verlie Wells of Wallace; his brother, Afton Quinn of Richmond, Va.; and five children, Eula Mae Piner of Wallace, Dorothy Cole Noe of Wilmington, Gladys Cole Hull of Dudley, Willie James Cole of Wallace and David Allen Cole of Magnolia. In addition to his children, Tom will be remembered by nieces, nephews, 14 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren, who will all miss him terribly.

Tom retired from Nash/Johnson Feed Co. after 20 years of service. In his spare time, he used his talents as a mechanic to restore and sell cars. He spent many hours with his "breakfast bunch" at Hardee's in Kenansville drinking coffee and talking trade. He also spent countless hours with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren telling stories and providing rides on his tractor.

At the time of his death, Tom was a member of the Oak Forest Church of Christ in Goldsboro. As a member of the congregation, he enjoyed being an active participant in the "Super Seniors" group. He took great pleasure in his many trips across the eastern seaboard with this vivacious group of seniors.

Funeral will be held 2 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 20, 2008, at Community Funeral Home Chapel, Warsaw, with visitation after the service. Tom will be laid to rest in the Devotional Gardens in Warsaw, N.C., at 4:30 p.m. following visitation.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Oak Forest Church of Christ, 2705 N. Park Drive, Goldsboro, NC 27534.
