BARBARA B. FLETCHER

ROCKINGHAM -- Barbara Bankhead "Babs" Fletcher, 50, a resident of Britthaven in Kinston, N.C., passed away on Thursday. Barbara was born in Richmond County to the late Jack Hamer Bankhead and Shirley Stuart Bankhead. Her early adult years were spent as a school teacher with the Richmond County School System. Then she devoted her full attention to her family, which included six years of loving 19 foster children. In days of good health, she was an active church member and a faithful Christian witness.

Survivors include her family, Katrina of Rockingham, Faith of Durham, Krystal and Bobby of Williamston; grandson, Aiden James Liston of Rockingham; sister, Beverly "BeBe" Bankhead Alexander of Salisbury; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 13, 2008, at First Assembly of God, Rockingham, N.C. Pastor Gene Alexander will officiate. Visitation will directly follow the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her memory to the Huntington's Disease Society of America (HDSA), N.C. Chapter, P.O. Box 240353, Charlotte, N.C. 28224.

Howard Carter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
