H. ROBERT HARDY

July 12, 1920-Jan. 9, 2008

LaGrange -- Henry Robert Hardy, 87, of 3665 Hugh E. Hardy Road, died Wednesday at Wayne Memorial Hospital. Mr. Hardy was born in Duplin County to the late Marion Langhorne Hardy and Eloise Kornegay Hardy. A lifelong farmer, he had a great love of gardening and hunting. Mr. Hardy served with the U.S. Air Force during World War II and was a member of Wheat Swamp Christian Church.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Jan. 11, 2008, at 11 a.m. from Rouse Funeral Home with the Rev. Lawrence Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery.

Mr. Hardy is survived by a special friend, Rose Lewis of Dudley; sister, Sallie Hardy Smith and husband, Aaron, of Dudley; brother, Joseph Lemuel Hardy and wife, Hazel, of Kinston; niece, Amy Hardy Moye and husband, Jack; five nephews, Lemuel Sutton Hardy and wife, Faye, Jackie Langhorne Hardy and wife, Donna, William Hardy Smith and wife, Faye, Danny Marion Smith and wife, Margey, Robert Aaron Smith and wife, Tonya; 11 great-nieces and nephews. Mr. Hardy was preceded in death by a brother, Walter Kornegay "Spark" Hardy.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Rouse Funeral Home and at other times they will be at the home of Jack and Amy Moye, 3650 Hugh E. Hardy Road, LaGrange. Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made to Wheat Swamp Christian Church, 3732 Wheat Swamp Road, LaGrange, N.C. 28551. Arrangements are with Rouse Funeral Home, LaGrange.
