MOUNT OLIVE -- Pauline Swinson Wiggins, 88, of 162 Bennett's Bridge Road, died early Monday at SunBridge Care Center.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Mount Olive Ward. Bishop Richard Brown will conduct, Bishop Robert Lee Deaver will deliver the message and Bishop Joseph Scott will give the eulogy. Interment will follow in the Wiggins-Price Cemetery in the Scott's Store community near the home.
Mrs. Wiggins was a long-time member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and was instrumental in the founding of the Mount Olive Ward in which she faithfully served in many capacities, including being Relief Society president, primary president and primary teacher. She and her husband had served a one-year mission in California. In addition to her church involvement, she was also a member of the Mount Olive Pickle Kickers, and supported her husband in his many business ventures.
Preceded in death by a son, Lathan A. "L.A." Wiggins Jr.; a sister, Blanche S. Denning; her mother, Myrtie Lee Sasser Swinson; her father, Major Ivey Swinson; and her stepmother, Florence "Flossie" Davis Swinson, she is survived by her husband of more than 70 years, Lathan A. Wiggins Sr.; six children and their spouses, Douglas Lyndell "Lindy" and Judy Wiggins of Mount Olive, Geraldine Faye "Geri" and Robert Lee Deaver of Kinston, Major Elwood and Jennifer Wiggins of Four Oaks, Steve and Hazel Wiggins of Mount Olive, Susan Elizabeth Wiggins of Mount Olive, Chester Markel and Vickie Wiggins of Mount Olive; 28 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at Tyndall Funeral Home from 7 until 9 p.m. on Wednesday, and at other times at the Major Swinson homeplace (now the residence of Steve Wiggins, 201 E. James St., Mount Olive).
