FANNIE SERENA WHITMAN

FAISON -- Fannie Serena Byrd Whitman, 90, of 592 Bill Clifton Road, died Tuesday morning at SunBridge Care in Mount Olive.

Funeral services will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday from the chapel of Tyndall Funeral Home with the Rev. Gene Hales and the Rev. James Spencer officiating. Following the service, the family will receive friends at the funeral home, and at other times at the home of Linda and Jimmy Miller, 2029 N.C. Highway 403, East of Faison. Committal and interment will be on Friday at 10:30 a.m. in the Faison Cemetery.

Mrs. Whitman, born in the Suttontown community, was the daughter of the late Isaac Byrd and Fannie B. Byrd. She was a member of the Mount Olive Free Will Baptist Church. She faithfully assisted her husband, known as "The Apple Man", in his traveling fruit and vegetable sales.

Her survivors include her husband of 70 years, David Henry "Dave Henry" Whit-man of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda Gail and Jimmy Miller of Faison; two grandchildren, Jamie Gail Grady and husband, Scott, of Mount Olive, and Michael Miller and wife, Carol, of Roswell, Ga.; and five great-grandchildren, Emily, Rachel, Katie, Hannah and David Miller.

The family wishes to acknowledge SunBridge Care Center and its Station II staff for their excellence in providing care for their loved one, with a special thanks to Janice Hart and Linda Beasley for their untiring efforts.

Flowers will be appreciated or memorial gifts may be sent to the charity of one's choice.
